It’s not often you hear a prime minister — Anthony Albanese, no less — lavish praise on a major media organisation for its coverage of public policy.
But at a press conference on Sydney’s lower north shore on Wednesday, News Corp’s tabloids drew glowing compliments from Albanese for their “wraparound” coverage of Labor’s under-16 social media ban in the days prior.
The rare alliance between Labor and News Corp formed a key part of what has become an influential coalition of activist organisations — mostly parents — who successfully campaigned for a policy likely to shape Albanese’s legacy.
However, even News Corp's influence in steering the passage of Australia’s teen social media ban has been eclipsed by Nova radio host Michael “Wippa” Wipfli and Rob Galluzzo, CEO of advertising firm Finch.
