Coalition support has collapsed to its lowest level under either Angus Taylor or Sussan Ley, leaving the Opposition closer to the Greens than to Pauline Hanson’s surging One Nation.
Exclusive new Capital Brief/DemosAU polling shows the Coalition’s primary vote has slumped five percentage points in just a month to 18%, raising fresh questions about Taylor’s ability to turn around its fortunes.
The poll also suggests the return of conservative former prime minister Tony Abbott, recently elected Liberal president, could fail to arrest the decline.
“The Coalition is in trouble; the closer they get to One Nation, they either alienate people who don’t like One Nation or give the green light to support them,” DemosAU head of research George Hasanakos says.
