“I probably enjoy this more than I should,” the Commonwealth Bank chief executive admitted on Tuesday, midway through several hours of questions from the House Economics Committee.

Now in his eighth year in the job, Comyn has performed for policymakers more times than any banker since the tradition began in 2016. So comfortable has he become in Canberra that he dispensed with formal opening remarks this time, choosing instead to riff on policy.
That Comyn is born for this sort of thing is obvious. On Tuesday, he deftly expressed concern for those who weren’t “seared” by the lessons of the banking royal commission he came of age in.
