“Everyone is shit scared of ASIC now.”
This law firm partner, speaking to Capital Brief after Sarah Court was named on Monday as the next chair of the corporate cop, nailed it.
Court and current chair Joe Longo have been on a tear in the past 12 months, with a record number of investigations and prosecutions — and some scathing commentary about offenders.
In fact, ASIC is a much sharper operation — inside and outside court — than it was when Longo and Court joined in 2021.
That gave Court the inside run over a field that included the deputy commissioner of the Tax Office, Jeremy Hirschhorn, and Nicole Rose, the former head of the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) and a deputy commissioner of the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
