Nuclear energy is here to stay in the Coalition partyroom, but opposition energy spokesman Dan Tehan accepts that former leader Peter Dutton’s plan is likely to change.
“I have no doubt that my colleagues, like I do, see very much a future for nuclear as part of our energy mix here in Australia,” Tehan told 7.30 this week.
“What I've been hearing [on a trip to the US] … is basically [about] a nuclear renaissance.”
The Albanese government’s attacks on cost forced Dutton to essentially stop talking about nuclear energy during the campaign. Labor’s questionable claim that his seven government-owned reactors would cost taxpayers $600 billion cut through with voters.
