In a relatively short time, generative AI had bloomed from a tech industry curiosity into a major consumer product — and, with GPT-4, a speculative force for reshaping the global economy.
Fast forward to today, when the company announced GPT-5, and the general response is a little cooler.
That’s not to say the new model isn’t impressive or capable. It is. But the environment around OpenAI has changed quite a lot since 2023.
