The rebirth of an “independent” Mallesons after its 14-year partnership with China’s King & Wood has been brought forward to Monday — a final sign of how keen the Australian partners are to move on.
When the firms announced the demerger in December, they said it would take effect on Tuesday 31 March. But someone twigged that this would mean staff working for King & Wood Mallesons on Monday and Mallesons on Tuesday.
The leaders agreed it would be much cleaner for the separation to take effect from the start of the working week.
Over the weekend, the final steps towards independence will be taken — including changing the nameplates in office foyers and updating reception signage.
