Independent MP Barnaby Joyce says the rise of One Nation was the trigger for the Coalition to abandon net zero, as he continues to keep us all guessing about whether he will join the minor party.
Speaking with Capital Brief, Joyce predicted that rising power bills and growing fears of electricity shortages would push many Australians to abandon their support for net-zero targets before the next federal election, due in 2028.

His comments follow Capital Brief’s publication this week of polling by DemosAU showing One Nation’s primary vote at 18%, putting the party in a position to win as many as a dozen House of Representatives seats.
Joyce quit the Nationals last month, citing a breakdown in his relationships with the party leadership.
