Former treasurer Josh Frydenberg has never been shy about speaking to the media and shutting down journalists when he disagrees with their assertions.
So it was curious that he initially remained quiet following weekend reports in News Corp publications that he’d not “ruled anything in or out” on making a bid for his former seat of Kooyong in Melbourne. It followed a redistribution that could make it easier for the Liberals to wrest back the electorate from 'teal' MP Monique Ryan.

Despite numerous approaches from journalists (including Capital Brief) over the weekend and this morning to clear up exactly what was going on, Frydenberg remained silent.
It wasn’t until Monday afternoon, when he posted a short statement on X regarding all the “speculation”, that the discussion over his return was scuppered.
