Could EQT have a rival bidder on its hands?
Good morning.
Financial services group Perpetual has fielded a third takeover offer from Swedish private equity firm EQT, this time at $22.50 a share or $2.6 billion.
EQT may be feeling pressure after media speculation that two other asset managers, namely Pinnacle Investment Management and Janus Henderson, could be considering rival bids.
However, a well-placed source told Capital Brief’s Brandon How that Pinnacle already looked at buying Perpetual in 2025. The firm apparently scrapped the idea and doesn’t plan to revisit it.
A spokesperson for Janus Henderson also dismissed the rumour as pure speculation. If another bidder is planning to make a move, they are keeping quiet for now.
