The dumping of Jacinta Nampijinpa Price could yet spark a move on Sussan Ley’s leadership. But why would anyone want the job right now?
Is your leadership under threat? It was the question most journalists were vying to ask Sussan Ley after she ousted Jacinta Nampijinpa Price from the Coalition frontbench this week.
“Absolutely not,” she shot back, putting on a confident front.
Liberal sources speaking to Capital Brief on the condition of anonymity so they could discuss the matter freely do not dispute this — in the short term, at least.
Supporting this notion is Price’s relative grace upon leaving the frontbench, describing her months there as an “honour”.
Staffers and journalists woke on Thursday morning wondering whether the firebrand, now even more emboldened to speak her mind, would throw petrol on a fire that had threatened to engulf Ley’s leadership. She hasn’t yet.
