For all the talk that the Albanese government could be in Donald Trump’s tariff firing line, his first day in office confirms that little old Australia is far from front of mind.
Trump said in his inauguration address that the US would collect “massive amounts” of income from tariffs as his administration sought to re-industrialise the country.

"Tariffs are going to make us rich as hell,” Trump later told supporters at Capital One Arena in Washington. "It's going to bring our country's businesses back that left us."
During the campaign Trump vowed to impose tariffs of up to 20% on global imports into the US and 60% on goods from China.
