For the first time in this campaign, Albanese has woken up in his hometown of Sydney, where he’s looking to keep Labor on the same footing as 2022. He’s certainly looking for surer footing than he showed in Cessnock on Thursday, when he fell off a stage at a mining union event.
Immediately after Trump announced he would impose a blanket 10% tariff on Australian exports, Albanese revealed a five-point plan and left open the door to pursue a resolution under the US Free Trade Agreement or the World Trade Organisation. Dutton said he broadly supports the measures — which include a $1 billion program to provide zero interest loans to affected companies — but the opposition leader differed from the prime minister on one important point.
