Atlassian’s Loom deal meets the Silicon Valley vibe shift

A US$60 million pay package couldn't contain Vinay Hiremath — who, alongside fellow Loom co-founder Shahed Khan, recently did work for Elon Musk's DOGE.

When Atlassian acquired Loom for USD975 million ($1.5 billion) in October 2023, its co-founders pledged to make it one of “the best software acquisitions of all time".

A year later, however, they were doing work for a different crowd: entrepreneurs and would-be government overseers Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Vinay Hiremath and Shahed Khan, two of Loom’s original trio, have since contributed to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) following Donald Trump’s re-election. Hiremath detailed his involvement in a blog post, while Khan’s participation was reported by The Information.

It reflects a broader "vibe shift" in Silicon Valley — one likely to affect Australian companies operating in the US, directly or indirectly.
