Treasurer Jim Chalmers will lay out the Albanese government's second term economic agenda in a speech to the National Press Club this week, just as the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran further clouds the outlook for global growth.

Here’s what you need to know about the key economic data releases this week.

New numbers

The data: Labour force, May 2025, Australian Bureau of Statistics

When: Thursday 19 June 2025

What to expect: The market consensus is for a 4.1% unemployment rate, holding steady for the third consecutive month, and employment to rise by 20,000 positions.

ANZ is also expecting a 4.1% jobless read, but 25,000 roles to be added. However, economists at the bank have flagged that a rise in hours worked might be recorded after a soft few months.
