Databricks co-founder rejects Anthropic's claim that AI will destroy 50% of junior office jobs

Anthropic's Dario Amodei warned AI could soon replace 50% of entry-level office jobs and trigger mass unemployment. Databricks disagrees.

Databricks co-founder Arsalan Tavakoli has conceded that while AI will replace some jobs, he rejects Anthropic founder Dario Amodei's prediction of mass unemployment in the coming years.

Speaking to Capital Brief in Databricks' Sydney offices, Tavakoli disagreed with Amodei's prediction to Axios that AI could eliminate 50% of entry-level white collar jobs and cause unemployment to rise up to 20% in the next one to five years.

"It is absolutely a fact that there is a lot of things today that we have humans doing the work that can be replaced with AI," Tavakoli said. "The challenge is that people then sit there and extrapolate that to, 'as a result, this means that half the world's workforce [will be] unemployed.'"

Tavakoli's comments come after Nvidia founder Jensen Huang, speaking to media at an innovation conference in France, dismissed Amodei's warning as alarmist. "I pretty much disagree with almost everything he says," Huang said.
