Google touts ‘full stack AI innovation’ over neocloud rivals in Australia

The tech giant says its data centre investments are more than simple compute plays, pointing to the infrastructure and AI technology that come with them.

Google is touting its prospective Australian data centre investment as “full stack AI innovation” backed by new enabling infrastructure, as it remains locked in negotiations with the federal government and chases hyperscale and neocloud rivals.

Google vice president of global infrastructure Bikash Koley told Capital Brief the tech giant has a “unique value proposition in terms of what we build, what we bring as part of the stack”, which neocloud providers in the Australian market do not offer.

“Of course, you know, the Australian ecosystem is going to be rich and there are going to be all sorts of infrastructure, including neoclouds in the marketplace.”

Investors are closely scrutinising the credentials of neocloud operators Sharon AI and Firmus ahead of their proposed ASX floats later this year, as well as Nasdaq-listed IREN, which is preparing to develop data centres from 2028.
