‘I didn't know that was a crime': NAB’s Irvine won't change his leadership style
The CEO of the big four lender said he has no intention of running the bank "in an ivory tower", amid criticisms of his leadership approach.
Fresh from releasing his second full-year result, Andrew Irvine says he won’t change his hands-on leadership style after the NAB chief executive copped criticism from the media and investors earlier this year.
“Look, it’s something I’m still learning. I’ve only been the CEO for a year and a half, and I’m going to continue to learn. But I can tell you that when I’m out with customers and out with our bankers, the experience is uniformly positive,” the NAB chief executive told Capital Brief.
The man at the helm of the $131 billion bank has a reputation in the market for getting out of the office, visiting branches and regional areas, and even jumping on LinkedIn to personally thank and congratulate staff or respond to customer complaints.
“I like to be hands-on. I like to run the business as if I own the business, and that, I think, will work for us,” he said.
