'Indefensible': ANZ CEO Nuno Matos attempts to quell staff unrest over email sackings
In an internal note, ANZ's relatively new CEO has personally apologised for the email mishap that has generated intense scrutiny inside and outside of his bank.
ANZ chief executive Nuno Matos has apologised to staff and executives after the bank inadvertently informed individuals they were being made redundant via an automated email.
The incident, first reported by Capital Brief, forced ANZ to bring forward planned face-to-face redundancy meetings with its senior management teams and triggered a wave of angst amongst the rank and file.
"The way this sensitive news was shared with some of you is indefensible and deeply disappointing," Matos wrote in the email sighted by Capital Brief.
"Even if you did not receive the message directly, I want to acknowledge the emotional impact this mistake may have had for you, your colleagues and your families."
