Inside Plann’s journey to join Linktree

Sydney startup Plann was acquired by the “link-in-bio” leader in August. For founder and CEO Christy Laurence, it was the culmination of an eight-year friendship.

After acquiring several US-based platforms in recent years, Australia’s social media darling Linktree turned its focus inward, snapping up one of its own in August.

Sydney-based social scheduling startup Plann has joined the likes of Koji, Bento and Odesli in Linktree’s expanding social media suite, as the “link-in-bio” leader continues building a more comprehensive platform.

Melbourne-headquartered Linktree, which reached unicorn status in 2022 following a $150 million raise, is widely known as a landing page solution for external links on social media profiles. The Plann acquisition adds new functionality for its 50 million users, including tools for social media scheduling and automatic posting across platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Plann’s employees, including founder and CEO Christy Laurence, have joined the Linktree team as part of the deal. Laurence spoke to Capital Brief about how two “bootstrapped friends” came to buy her company and adjusting to her new role post-acquisition.
