Meet the Aussie founder spending $2.4 million a year to live longer

A number of startups are emerging to cater to the longevity hype. Nick Bell might be Australia's number one advocate — and he admits it is a tough business.

“I knew I was on the right track when I was getting stem cells done and Chris Hemsworth walked in to the clinic to get them done as well,” entrepreneur Nick Bell tells Capital Brief, describing his trip to Tokyo last week.

Bell undergoes stem cell therapy a few times a year to treat his injured knees and shoulders, and he is happy to travel for the treatment. With a net worth of around $300 million, he considers $25,000 a small price to pay to avoid surgery.

He and the Hollywood star are in rarefied company, but their meeting in a Japanese health clinic exemplifies how more attention – and more money – is being expended on longevity than ever before.

Bell describes himself as “obsessed” with advances in medical science and, blessed with the resources to pay for them, has spent $2.4 million on his personal health this year alone.
