‘Morale is in the toilet’: Inside Atlassian’s AI reckoning
It was an agonising 20 minutes this morning for staff at Australia’s most celebrated tech company, as they awaited their fate after months of AI driven turmoil.
“So that’s how 16 years ends, not with a big goodbye and a party, but a morning email.”
That was the reaction on LinkedIn from one now former Atlassian engineer to the realisation they had been swept up in an AI-driven decimation at Australia’s most celebrated tech company.
On Thursday morning, chief executive Mike Cannon-Brookes announced to staff that roughly 1,600 employees — about 10% of Atlassian’s global workforce — would lose their jobs.
“Every Atlassian will receive an email within the next 20 minutes letting you know if you are impacted,” he said at the end of the announcement.
