Network 10 boss moved to calm staff amid Paramount merger talks, industry job cuts

During a town hall last week, Network 10 president Beverley McGarvey tried to assure staff on the future of the network amid Paramount merger talks and local media job cuts.

As the months-long effort to merge Paramount Global and Skydance Media reached its final stages, Paramount’s local boss and Network 10 president, Beverley McGarvey, addressed staff in a bid to calm nerves amid job cuts by the network’s competitors.

The address came just days before Paramount’s current global leadership and its incoming new owners signalled they may sell assets deemed “not strategic” for the right price.

During a town hall last week, McGarvey reassured staff that Paramount — which owns Network 10 — did not have short-term plans to cut local jobs, despite significant layoffs at Seven West Media and Nine Entertainment, according to three sources familiar with the meeting. But she did not rule out cuts altogether.

McGarvey addressed staff questions and concerns on various topics during the meeting, including the potential sale of Paramount, which had not yet been finalised. She assured the network's local workforce of roughly 900 people that any impact from the Paramount transaction would likely not be felt locally for the better part of a year.
