Artificial intelligence is reshaping who holds the advantage in startups. Across Australia and New Zealand, lean AI-first companies are scaling globally and hitting seven-figure revenues faster than ever — while incumbents scramble to retrofit AI into sprawling operations.

Christchurch-based AI startup Contented, fresh off a NZ4.1 million ($3.5 million) raise, is the latest to capitalise on this wave.

“At this phase [incumbents] also have to retrofit their existing software to be an AI software, whereas we’ve been powered by AI since day one”, Contented co-founder Lucy Pink told Capital Brief.

Contented, a conversation-capturing tool, successfully secured the NZ4.1 million seed funding in an oversubscribed round led by Altered Capital, with additional support from Australian venture capital firms Shearwater Capital and Exhort Ventures.
