RBA governor Michele Bullock's Christmas message to a weary nation: Things could get better in 2024
It's been a difficult year for many Australians, with rising prices and interest rates putting a strain on budgets. But the RBA thinks it could improve in 2024.
Michele Bullock's speech to the Australian Payments Networks Summit in Sydney this morning was the closest most businesses and households will get to a Christmas card from the Reserve Bank governor.
“I know everyone's worked really hard this year,” she said, when asked what her message was for Australia as 2023 comes to a close.
“It's been a hard year. It's been a hard year for people at work. It's been a hard year for people who are dealing with rising interest rates and rising inflation.
“I'd like to think that we can all take some time to be with our families. And, hopefully, things are going to get better next year.”
