Seven and Ten donated $87,000 to the major parties last year. Here's where it went.
Paramount's Network Ten and Seven West Media have been persistent patrons of the major parties, even as other media companies have pulled back, amid major changes to Australia's media regulations.
Paramount-owned Network Ten and the Kerry Stokes-controlled Seven West Media were the only two media companies whose political donations triggered disclosures in the 2024 financial year, as Labor set out to advance a flurry of media regulation.
New political donations data released by the Australian Electoral Commission on Monday showed Network Ten made political donations worth $63,000 to the Liberal and Labor parties in the 2024 financial year, while Seven donated $23,700 to the major parties.
In December 2023, Ten made donations of $33,000 to the Australian Labor Party and $30,000 to the Liberal Party of Australia.
Seven, meanwhile, handed Labor $11,500 on 27 July 2023, before making a donation of $11,000 to the Liberal Party of Australia 5 September that year. Seven went on to donate a further $1,200 to the Liberal Party's NSW Division on 11 March last year.
