‘Someone upstairs is fair’: August Robotics is drilling into the data centre boom
From exhibition halls to data centres, August Robotics is betting its robot platform can drill into the infrastructure boom. It’s latest backers agree.
Alex Wyatt’s theory is that when it comes to building robots, the functionality is pretty similar, regardless of what the robot is designed to do. If you solve for challenges like navigation, identifying obstacles, precision and fleet coordination in one robot, building the next one becomes faster and cheaper.
That theory is at the heart of August Robotics, the robotics automation company of which Wyatt is founder and CEO. When the company launched its first robot, Lionel, in exhibition halls in 2019, it wasn’t making a bet on the exhibition industry, it was intending to prove the underlying platform that future robots would be built on.
“The idea of August Robotics isn’t to build multiple different robots that are all unrelated to one another. We’ve spent a lot of time building a robot platform, and then each of the robots that we build is just a different manifestation of that platform,” Wyatt told Capital Brief.
The company, founded in 2017, builds autonomous robot fleets for construction and industrial applications, operating across the United States, Asia, Europe and Australia.
