Tesla chair Robyn Denholm's family office is appealing an IP Australia decision made last month in a long-running trademark dispute with former Macquarie Capital chief Tim Bishop's climate tech VC firm.

Denholm’s Wollemi Capital Group lost its bid to oppose a trademark application by Bishop's Wollemi Capital linked to the words "Wollemi" and the phrase "Wollemi Capital."

Wollemi is an Indigenous word for Australia’s famed Jurassic era pines.

In a decision on 12 June by IP Australia, which ended an almost two-year dispute between the funds, Bishop's Wollemi Capital won out after Denholm's fund failed to make its case.

Documents linked to the dispute seen by Capital Brief show Denholm's Wollemi Capital Group had argued her prominence bolstered her claim to the word.
