The good, the bad and the exception: Cost of living crisis nearing peak

When will the cost-of-living crisis end? Economists think we're at, or near, the worst of it. But it's less clear when things will get better.

Economists are predicting an easing in inflation and eyeing interest rate cuts, but the cost-of-living crisis remains the biggest economic issue politically and at the dinner table.

The burdens on the household budget are crimping spending and are being closely monitored by Treasurer Jim Chalmers ahead of the May Budget.

So when will this hip pocket pinch end?

Firstly, the good news. Several economists spoken to by Capital Brief think right now is about as bad as it gets, or close to it.

The bad news, though, is that while we may be nearing the pain peak, it's less clear when it will get better.
