Tractor Ventures’ Matt Allen joins Community Music to modernise funding for musicians

Matt Allen spent six years financing those misunderstood by traditional banking. Now he’s using that playbook to do the same for artists.

After six years of financing those overlooked by traditional banks and venture capital, Tractor Ventures' Matt Allen is turning his focus to a new group, long shut out of the funding models available to other founders: independent musicians.

Allen, who is also the co-founder of Side Stage Ventures, has added another notch to his belt, joining Australian independent music company Community Music as head of artist capital to provide in-house venture capital expertise.

“This is an unlock to help artists that aren’t lucky enough to be signed up to a label to be able to invest in their own growth, in a way that’s never really been done before”, Allen told Capital Brief.

Community Music — launched by Jaddan Comerford’s Unified music group, which manages artists such as Ocean Alley and Vance Joy — is a platform providing distribution, marketing and monetisation tools for artists, allowing them to manage their catalogue independently.
