Xero hits back in Fair Work lawsuit over gender pay gap
The tech company has denied it breached the Fair Work Act in a lawsuit against a software engineer who claims she was underpaid relative to male colleagues.
Accounting software company Xero has hit back at allegations from software engineer Ann Montagu-Navarrete that it breached the Fair Work Act by paying higher salaries to two of her male colleagues.
Montagu-Navarrette has alleged in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia that she was subjected to bullying and an ongoing pay gap when compared with two male co-workers named in the case — Tristan Boyd and Steven Tran.
Under legal requirements in place since 1969, employees should be paid the same for performing the same work or different work of equal or comparable value.
In court documents obtained by Capital Brief, Xero’s lawyers from McCullough Robertson argue that Boyd was a lateral hire with “more experience and capabilities” than Montagu-Navarrete.
