The news: HealthTech startup Indi has raised $1.46 million to build out its team to accelerate app development and expand the number of partnerships the company has with allied health clinics.

Indi is an AI-powered co-pilot app intended to help parents of children with complex care needs navigate the appropriate healthcare, allied health, education and NDIS services.

The context: The funding round was led by social impact-focused venture capital fund Giant Leap and was supported by early-stage venture capital fund Antler. A group of angel investors also participated in the round.

The app aims to help reduce mental load, streamline communications and enable informed decisions to be taken faster by connecting the various caregivers that might have responsibilities to the child, including parents, therapists and clinicians.

Indi was founded by Orrin Benford and chief technology officer Jeff Quach after Benford’s daughter Indi suffered a seizure in December 2021. Benford found himself navigating “a complex and often inaccessible system of care” when supporting his daughter.

Benford is also an investor through venture capital firm FOG Ventures and the former COO and co-founder of LVL Wellbeing, a platform aimed at improving ‘physical and mental well-being’ that was based in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Quach was the founder of mental health AI companion Haven AI and a former senior product manager at SafetyCulture. He also spent five months as an ‘entrepreneur in residence’ at Antler prior to co-founding Indi.

What they said: Giant Leap partner Rachel Yangs said: "Indi is exactly the kind of mission-driven business we look to back".

"Born from Orrin’s personal experience, it tackles a difficult and important problem, helping children who are often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or facing challenges that prevent them from living a full, high-quality life.”

Antler partner James McClure praised Benford’s “urgency and high agency throughout our relationship, as well as the raw skills which befit his experience”.
