Allegro Energy secures US patent for battery tech
The news: Australian battery technology startup Allegro Energy has secured a US patent for its micro-emulsion electrolyte technology.
The numbers: The patent positions the renewable energy company as a leader in the emerging long-duration energy storage market, which is estimated to be worth around $350 billion globally by 2044. It holds similar patents in Europe and Japan.
The context: Allegro said its modular micro-emulsion electrolyte system enables safer, more cost-effective and scalable solutions for applications ranging from grid storage to renewable energy integration. By overcoming key limitations of traditional aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes, the technology significantly expands the electrochemical stability window, boosting energy density while maintaining the affordability and safety of water-based systems.
Allegro last month secured a $1.85 million grant under the Albanese government’s Industry Growth Program (IGP), and recently completed a $17.5 million Series A funding round, led by climate investor Jeremy Grantham’s foundation.
