The news: Covid-19 vaccine maker BioNTech released 2024 guidance on Tuesday, anticipating total revenues of €3 billion ($4.9 billion) for the year as it focuses on scaling up oncology trials and launches.

The numbers: BioNTech ended 2023 with approximately €17.5 billion in cash, cash equivalents and security investments according to unaudited figures. Should BioNTech’s 2024 total revenue be €3 billion, this would be almost €1 billion below consensus estimates provided by S&P Capital IQ analysts.

The context: A press release from the biotechnology company states that its 2024 revenues will be largely driven by its Covid-19 vaccine franchise, and will continue generating interest income throughout the year. BioNTech plans to ensure its oncology business is commercially ready in multiple countries by the end of 2025.
