The news: Brendan Humphreys has resigned his position as Canva’s chief technology officer after serving for 12 years at the company.

The context: In a LinkedIn post, Humphreys said he will leave the software group on 19 June, and will stay on as an adviser thereafter.

Humphreys expressed the need for a break to explore other “crazy big projects” and delve into progressive politics and social justice.

Current head of platforms Simon Newton is set to succeed him, a spokesman for Canva told Capital Brief. Newton previously served at Google and Uber.

What they said: “When I joined Canva in 2014, there were just 12 of us. I don’t think any of us could have imagined the level or pace of what we’d build together and I’m so proud to have been part of it. It’s been an enormous privilege, and an obvious career highlight,” Humphreys said on LinkedIn.
