Brighter Super appoints Aware Super's Damien Webb as new CIO

The news: Brighter Super has appointed Aware Super’s deputy chief investment officer Damien Webb as its chief investment officer.

The context: Webb currently leads Aware’s UK operations and will return to Sydney to take up the role.

Webb replaces Mark Rider who left the $32 billion superannuation fund in December. Interim CIO David O’Donnell will take up the deputy CIO role.

What they said: Brighter Super chief executive Kate Farrar said: “Damien’s expertise will augment our existing exceptional investment team and governance framework with even more investment strategy and experience and continue to support our investment into Queensland through our Queensland Asset Strategy.”

Webb said: “I’m particularly excited about continuing to strengthen how we use data, technology and AI to support better decision-making, while staying closely aligned to members’ needs and the fund’s Queensland-focused ethos.”
