The news: Canva co-founder Cameron Adams and his wife Lisa Miller have joined The Giving Pledge and the Founders Pledge.
The context: Media reports said the pair were committed to donate at least half of their wealth over their lifetime.
The Giving Pledge was founded by Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and Melinda Gates while the Founders Pledge is a London-based not-for-profit.
Adams and Miller said they were committed to saving biodiversity as species and ecosystems were “disappearing at an alarming rate”.
Canva was first launched in 2013 and is Australia’s design software unicorn and is increasingly IPO-ready. Canva's two other co-founders Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht joined The Giving Pledge in 2021.
What they said: “We must not only halt nature’s decline but also begin its restoration. Governments and businesses will play vital roles, but philanthropy has a unique ability to drive bold action, fund innovation, and catalyse change at scale,” Adams and Miller said in their pledge letter to The Giving Pledge.
“Through the Giving Pledge we are directing the majority of our wealth toward this, because the alternative — inaction on a dying planet — is unacceptable.”
