CSL inks $100m licensing agreement with Eli Lilly
The news: Biotech group CSL has struck an exclusive licensing agreement with US pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company, granting certain rights to develop and commercialise its monoclonal antibody clazakizumab.
The context: Under the terms of the agreement, CSL will retain exclusive rights to develop and commercialise clazakizumab for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with end-stage kidney disease.
Lilly will explore the development, global regulatory approval and commercialisation of clazakizumab in additional indications.
CSL, which acquired clazakizumab from Vitaeris in 2020, will receive an upfront payment of $100 million from Lilly and will be eligible to receive potential clinical, regulatory and commercial milestone payments, as well as royalties on global net sales.
CSL is currently advancing a phase three trial assessing the efficacy and safety of clazakizumab in dialysis patients at risk of major cardiovascular events.
