Elon Musk to leave Trump administration
The news: Elon Musk has announced that he is leaving his role in the Trump administration, a day after criticising the US President's key spending bill.
The context: Posting on his social media platform X, the Tesla chief executive said his "scheduled time as a Special Government Employee" has "comes to an end".
On Wednesday, Musk said he was "disappointed” by Trump's "big beautiful bill", saying it "increases the budget deficit" and "undermines the work that the [Department of Government Efficiency] team is doing."
What they said: "I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending," Musk wrote. "The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."
