Fintech unicorn Zeller kicks off international expansion with UK launch
The news: Australian fintech Zeller has announced that it will launch into the UK, its first international market, as part of its new expansion strategy.
The context: Zeller has appointed former ByteDance executive Lars Weber to lead its UK operations, based in London.
The company said recruitment is underway to scale the team to over 40 people across technology, operations and go-to-market roles over the next three years.
Zeller, which provides payment and financial management solutions for businesses, said it is targeting a "large and underserved" addressable market in the UK, with more than 5.5 million businesses processing GBP1.3 trillion ($2.65 trillion) in payments each year.
Zeller's platform combines payments, business accounts, cards, expense management, invoicing and real-time financial reporting. Founded in 2020 by former Square executives Ben Pfisterer and Dominic Yap, the company now serves more than 100,000 Australian businesses and employs over 320 people.
What they said: "This is a pivotal moment for Zeller," Pfisterer said.
"Our ambition has always been to create a global platform for small business banking. Expanding into the UK — one of the world’s largest and most dynamic small business economies — is the first step in realising that vision."
