The news: Genesis Energy has appointed SkyCity Entertainment's outgoing chief financial officer Julie Amey as its CFO, commencing 4 November.

The numbers: Amey has served as SkyCity's CFO since May 2021, but recently announced she would step down from the role on 25 September. Prior to SkyCity, Amey held a series of leadership roles at Shell in London, Dubai, Istanbul, Doha and Perth over a 20-year stint at the energy group.

The context: Genesis said that it has appointed its current general manager of retail finance and commercial Emma Oettli to the role of interim CFO until Amey commenced.

Amey resigned from SkyCity in March amid the troubled casino operator facing ongoing allegations of non-compliance with anti-money laundering and terrorism financing laws.

In February, Genesis announced that its current CFO James Spence, who has held the role since March 2022, would leave the company on 24 May and join ASX-listed travel group Corporate Travel Management as its global finance chief.

What they said: Genesis CEO Malcolm Johns said: "Julie is really looking forward to returning to the energy sector and joining Genesis to help ensure the success of our Gen35 strategy".

"Julie holds out company and our aspirations in very high regard and, alongside her experience, brings with her a significant amount of passion for the energy transformation journey," he said.
