The news: Experienced non-executive Vanessa Guthrie has been appointed to the board of waste management business Cleanaway, effective 1 February.

The context: Cleanaway told the exchange that Guthrie’s appointment is part of the board’s ongoing renewal process after former director Rob Cole retired in December 2024 amid health complications before completing his transition to the role of chair.

Guthrie was appointed chair of IGO in November and also sits on the board of ASX-listed resource businesses Santos, Lynas Rare Earths and Orica, and serves as deputy chair of Cricket Australia and chancellor of Curtin University.

She formerly served as managing director and CEO of ASX-listed Toro Energy and as Minerals Council of Australia chair.

What they said: “I am pleased to welcome Vanessa to the Cleanaway board. Dr Guthrie’s extensive director and executive leadership experience will add further depth and strength to the board as we continue to execute our strategy,” Cleanaway chair Philippe Etienne said.
