NAB CFO Nathan Goonan to join Westpac
The news: Westpac has poached National Australia Bank's chief financial officer Nathan Goonan to become its new CFO.
The numbers: Goonan has been with NAB for 15 years over two periods, joining the executive leadership team in 2020 before being appointed group CFO in 2023.
The context: NAB confirmed that Goonan has resigned from his role and will leave the bank later this year after meeting his contractual obligations.
Shaun Dooley, currently group chief risk officer, will act as group CFO while NAB recruits a permanent replacement for Goonan.
Westpac's current CFO Michael Rowland, who is set to depart later this year, will remain in his role until Goonan joins the company.
NAB also announced that former Bank of Montreal executive Andrew Auerbach has been appointed group executive for business and private banking (B&PB), starting 16 June. He will replace Rachel Slade, who will depart on 1 July.
Slade joined NAB in 2017 and was appointed to the executive leadership team in 2018 as chief customer experience officer before taking on the role of group executive for personal banking in 2020. She became group executive for B&PB last year when Andrew Irvine became NAB group CEO.
