NSW govt names Stone & Chalk as Tech Central operator
The news: The NSW government has named Stone and Chalk as strategic partners and operators of the Tech Central Innovation Hub in central Sydney.
The context: The startup hub will take on the role that the Sydney Startup Hub has historically filled, providing facilities, affordable working spaces and programs to the city's startups and scale-ups.
In addition, Fishburners — another community and co-working space for startups — has announced that it has joined Tech Central Innovation Hub as an anchor partner, focusing on providing support to early-stage startups.
The NSW Government will also relocate its two 'Landing Pads' to the Tech Central Innovation Hub. These comprise the International Landing Pad, which supports overseas technology businesses explore expansion into NSW, and the Regional Landing Pad, a work and collaboration space for regional entrepreneurs visiting Sydney.
Earlier this year, the NSW Government announced a $38.5 million investment into Tech Central as part of the NSW Innovation Blueprint.
Last week, the NSW government released its Tech Central Economic Development Strategy — a plan to cement Tech Central as Australia’s leading innovation engine and a globally recognised destination to live, work and innovate.
What they said: "Today, Australia’s leading tech companies, venture funds, and ecosystem enablers are clustered in and around Tech Central," said Chris Kirk, CEO of Stone and Chalk.
"The NSW Government’s decision to back this precinct is a bold investment in the future of our economy. From Station F in Paris to MaRS in Toronto, we’ve seen how world-class hubs accelerate innovation.
"Tech Central is Sydney’s chance to join those ranks and stake its claim as one of the world’s great innovation cities."
