Nvidia backs UK AI data centre startup Nscale in USD2b raise
The news: UK developer of AI data centres, Nscale, has raised USD2 billion ($2.85 billion) in its Series C funding round and appointed three high-profile directors including former Meta executives Sheryl Sandberg and Nick Clegg, as well as former Yahoo executive and Berkshire Hathaway board member Susan Decker.
The numbers: The round values the startup at USD14.6 billion, according to a statement released by the company on Monday, with Norwegian energy company Aker ASA and 8090 Industries leading the raise.
Astra Capital Management, Citadel, Dell, Jane Street, Lenovo, Linden advisers, Nokia, Nvidia, and Point72 also joined the round.
The context: The company said that the raise will accelerate Nscale’s global development of AI infrastructure across Europe, North America, and Asia.
In addition to the Series C Funding and new directors, Nscale also agreed to roll its Aker Nscale joint venture ,announced in mid-2025, fully into Nscale. Aker will remain a leading shareholder in Nscale with its CEO Øyvind Eriksen continuing to serve on the Nscale Board.
The company raised USD1.5 billion during October 2025, having already secured a similar amount in loans earlier that year.
Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan acted as joint placement agents for Nscale for the capital raise, which is inclusive of the USD433 million pre-Series C SAFE round Nscale secured in October.
What they said: Founder and CEO of Nscale, Josh Payne, said the AI boom is “leading to the largest infrastructure buildout in human history…We are building this foundation that the market sits on, the engine of superintelligence.”
