PolyNovo says chronic wound treatment more effective than clinical standard alone
More news: Biotech PolyNovo says the use of its NovoSorb BTM product in combination with the existing standard of care can speed up the healing process of diabetic related wounds and ulcers by more than four months, according to a recent trial.
The randomised controlled trial for post-surgical diabetes-related foot wounds compared patients being treated with NovoSorb BTM and negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) with those only receiving the standard of care, which is NPWT alone.
Interim analysis of complete wound healing at 12 months was observed in 66.7% of NovoSorb BTM-treated wounds, compared to 56.5% of those just treated with NPWT. However, this was not a statistically significant result. Between May 2022 and September 2024, 64 participants were enrolled in the trial.
PolyNovo also said that the NovoSorb BTM group showed a significant decrease in “mean time to complete healing” of wounds with a surface area larger than 10 centimetres squared.
The results will be presented to the Australian & New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgery conference to be held in Adelaide between 2 and 5 October.
What they said: “A decrease of ‘time to complete healing of over four months is a huge benefit to the patient and health care system,” PolyNovo acting chief executive Robyn Elliott said.
PolyNovo enters trading halt before addressing wound trial results
The news: Tissue regeneration biotech Polynovo has entered a trading halt ahead of an announcement relating to its chronic wound study that had been made public.
The context: Polynovo said the announcement related to a “poster made public on the results” of a randomised controlled clinical trial “comparing the use of NovoSorb BTM combined with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) to the clinical standard of care (NPWT alone) in subjects with” diabetic wounds resulting from a combination of nerve damage and lack of blood flow.
The trading halt is due to remain in place until the earlier of the company’s announcement or market open on 16 September.
