The news: Troubled New Zealand casino operator SkyCity Entertainment has named Jason Walbridge as its new chief executive officer.

The context: Walbridge is expected to start in July, replacing interim CEO Callum Mallett. His appointment comes after an extensive international search, SkyCity said.

Walbridge is currently executive chair of National Entertainment Network, the largest amusement route operator in the US.

He has previously spent 18 years with Aristocrat Leisure in executive roles in New Zealand and the US, and is currently advising the group on its acquisition of NeoGames.

SkyCity saw an exit of senior management earlier this year, with the CEO, COO and CFO departing after the company faced claims of non-compliance with anti-money laundering and terrorism financing laws in both Australia and New Zealand.

Over the last 12 months, SkyCity's share price has fallen 24.22%.
