Smartgroup, PolyNovo, Amotiv lead losses ahead of removal from ASX 200

The news: Smartgroup Corporation, PolyNovo and Amotiv were the three biggest losers on the ASX 200 in afternoon trade after it was announced they would be removed from the benchmark index on Friday.

The numbers: At 2:45pm AEST, shares in Smartgroup Corporation tumbled 5.1% to $8.64 but was also trading ex-dividend.

PolyNovo shares slipped 4.1% to $1.46 while Amotiv dropped 4.2% to $9.39.

Droneshield, which will be added to the ASX 200, saw its shares lift 5.5% to $3.20. GQG Partners also saw their shares lift 1.2% to $1.76.

IDP Education, which will be bumped off the ASX 100 index, was also among the biggest losers. Its shares had slipped 2.6% to $5.38.

The context: In total, nine changes were made to the ASX 200 index, as announced after market close on Friday. The changes will be effective from 22 September, before market open.

There was also one change to the ASX 50 and three changes to the ASX 100.
