The news: CEO of The Star Gold Coast, Jessica Mellor, has resigned from her post, as the embattled casino group weathers a second NSW inquiry into compliance at the gaming venue.

The numbers: Appointed in October 2023, Mellor was The Star Gold Coast’s youngest and first female CEO. Mellor had previously held the role of COO since 2019.

The context: The company broke the news via an ASX announcement released after close on Thursday, which states that Mellor has tendered her resignation to the Board, effective 24 May 2024. General manager of gaming, Ian Brown, will take on additional duties as acting CEO until a replacement is appointed.

The news comes one day after the Star Entertainment Group chair, David Foster, requested a leave absence from his role as chair at Bendigo and Adelaide Bank. During the inquiry on Monday, the public hearing heard that Foster and former Star CEO Robbie Cooke plotted to oust special manager Nicholas Weeks.

What they said: David Foster commented on Mellor’s tenure in the announcement, saying: “Jessica has led The Star Gold Cost through some challenging times including through COVID and has been instrumental in developing the Gold Coast property into an iconic world class integrated destination resort with our joint venture partners.”
