The news: Bendigo and Adelaide Bank chair David Foster has stepped down from the role, with interim replacement Vicki Carter confirmed as his permanent successor.

The context: Carter was appointed interim chair in April, after Foster requested a leave of absence from his role. His absence coincided with the NSW Independent Casino Commission's second inquiry into the Star, which Foster was also the former chair of.

Foster remains on a leave of absence on the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank board. He became chair of the bank in October 2023, and served as the Star's chair since December 2022.

Last month, Foster was replaced as Star chair by non-executive director Anne Ward, with Foster remaining temporarily on the board as a director.

Carter joined the bank's board in September 2018, after leadership roles at NAB and Telstra. She is also a non-executive director at ASX and IPH Limited.
